U of Hue & DJ Screw. It’s a given fact that when one has to make an association between Houston and hip-hop, DJ Screw is brought up as being the city’s main outlet. Screw has been crowned by many as the father of the ‘chopped and screwed’ sound via his infamous Screw Tapes and his recordings will officially be on display at the University of Houston. Screw’s dad recently donated over 1000 of his son’s vinyls to the university’s library. The collection includes rare wax from many southern and west coast artists. The exhibit is expected to open in 2013.
Big Sell-Out. You see folks, this is why you have to keep your word; so that when the time comes, you don’t make an ass out of yourself. Here we have a video of a young Sean Anderson (aka Big Sean), who is speaking to Fox News about his group’s (The Young Boys) positive approach to hip-hop. In the video he preaches to the youth of yesteryears that sex can wait and not to do drugs. “Don’t mess with drugs, don’t try to creep!” Fast forward to today and what do we have? A not so bigger Sean Anderson doing the exact opposite! The dude goes from telling us that we need to have more rappers who don’t provoke young listeners to engage in intercourse, to telling us that he’s “grabbing the fattest asses just to see them shake.”[1] Whoa there Big Sean, you’re a fake. Ironic you even made a song about it.

Lost position due to UGK affiliation. A candidate for a school board position in Atlanta was dismissed due to his ties with Bun B and the late Pimp C! Byron Amos, the former Vice President of UGK Records had the support of the Teacher’s Union pulled after they found out about his ties to hip-hop! "For him to actually want to run for the board and say that he cares about children, when what he's doing is using this music to do the worst for our children," Shawnna Hayes Tavarez, president of Southwest Northwest Atlanta Parents and Partners for Schools said.

From Phoenix to Jenius. Hopefully you got that X-Men reference, otherwise I just seem foolish but Jean Grae is going to be making some cool business ventures in the coming year. Aside from her upcoming album, Cake or Death, Jean is set to self-publish her own book in October and then make a television show out of it! She says that her life is absolutely ridiculous enough to make it ‘fit for TV,’ and also adds that “You can’t make that shit [the show] up. It’s sort of going to integrate Curb Your Enthusiasm, Louie kind of way.”
